Taking shots at 200nl

Ive beaten 50nl
Ive beaten 100nl
Time to take a few shots at 200nl I think.

What is usually the case when taking shots is that you play a little scared money and end up having a bad beat along the way, knocking you back down to the previous level in style.

Not me.

I managed to luck out and find a great table. I kid you not when i tell you the following stats of the players at my table

running from my left clockwise
46/24/3 over 88 hands
48/11/1 over 27 hands
80/50/1.5 over 60 hands
57/20/5 over 45 hands

I played around 160 hands when this little beauty fell in my lap.

$1/$2 No Limit Holdem
5 players
Converted at weaktight.com

Stacks:
UTG ($268.78)
CO ($363.30)
BTN ($264.70)
SB ($102.25)
Hero (BB) ($293.15)

Pre-flop: ($3, 5 players) Hero is BB

UTG raises to $6, 1 fold, BTN calls $6, 1 fold, Hero raises to $22, UTG folds, BTN calls $16

Flop: ($51, 2 players)
Hero bets $34, BTN calls $34

Turn: ($119, 2 players)
Hero goes all-in $237.15, BTN goes all-in $208.70

River: ($564.85, 2 players)

Final Pot: $564.85
BTN shows:
Hero shows:

Hero wins $561.35 ( won +$268.20 )
BTN lost -$264.70
UTG lost -$6

I do find it amazing sometimes that people can play so bad and at a level where the money is significant.

Record month for sure now.

Hello,
i like your blog. I also give sometimes comment (like the anonymus comemnt to congratulate for your job. This time I will leave me email address behind :-)

I play at 0,1-0,25 this time. But already have sometimes moved up one level. I have around 16bb/100 over 30000 hands over the last 2 months. I think I might go up to a higher level if there are tables like the one you mention. Such a loose table is rare even at lower levels :-)
So I wish you good luck further.

This is Zoltan again...and you should update your profit as well. The latest update there is from Febr 2008 :-)

Hi Zoltan,

Thanks for your comment. The profit is shown as a total profit from Feb08 starting at a bankroll of $500. I may change it to look a little easier to understand. I may be upgrading the website soon aswell so will look at it then.

I have been surprised recently at the amount of players at 100nl that are worse than 25nl and 50nl players. My sample size at 200nl is obv too small to hold credibility but still very surprised at a whole table full of bad players.

If you are winning at 16bb/100 at your current level and have 20 buyins for the next level then i would take a shot. You may be playing at a level lower than where you can be most optimal. If you find you lose a few buyins drop down and rebuild. Just do not blow your roll at the higher level.

Take a shot and step back if it goes bad.

Good luck. Let me know what happens and if I can help in any way.

I think ego has something to play with some of these really bad players. Maybe they don't want to start off playing NL10 or NL25 so play NL200 instead?

BTW, I usually get owned when I have an excellent table like that you were on!

hey Yorkie, I agree i think it was a one off table with a lot of egos.

I know a lot of people in real life that wouldnt have the patience to grind the 25nl or 50nl tables that are also terrible at poker.
